There are a multitude of answers to this question but I will speak briefly on one of those reasons.
Some churches have become a place of bashing more so than a place of deliverance. It has become almost like a show for the "saints' to socialize only with each other and to point at and whisper about the ones who come in that are not like them. I have watched it to often as a young lady comes in the church wearing a short skirt and instead of people being thankful that she decided to come into the church, they point and whisper about what she has on. We don't know what a persons situation may be when they come into the church but our mission is to not bash them but to help win them over to Christ with love. Jesus said with love & kindness had he drawn people.
The same ones who dress up in their fancy suits forget that they too were once sinners who knew nothing about God. Many of you still know nothing about God.

I wonder what would happen if God decided to pull some of the skeletons out of your closet.Would you still be able to point fingers?! What would happen if God showed the world what went on behind the four walls of your home when you were not at church or around the saints. What about those messy conversations you have when you spreading mess about other members in the church. Yet you consider yourself greater? You are only great in your own eyes but God sees you for who you really are.
You sit with your chest all puffed out and your collars tight around your neck for fear that the devil you squeezing and sucking into those tight suits might pop out and reveal what you really stand for.
Lets admit that its a lot of them in the church who will swear on the bible that they are sanctified & filled with the gift of the Holy ghost but at home are the biggest devils.
Who are you to point fingers at the sinners as if you were never among them?!
You were that crack addict.
You were that prostitute. You say "Oh not me". Any time you were having premarital sex and being wined & dined, you were a prostitute of your body. The only difference is you just were not on the street corner. You were that drunk who you can't stand to now sit beside you in church.
You were homeless to and in need of shelter.
Stop forgetting where you came from when you go out to minister to the lost.
The truth is what wins people over to Christ. Nobody wants to be won over with a lie.
Remove the fancy hats and suits when you are among these people and just be honest with them. Let them know that it is never an easy walk to do on your own but with the help of God it is possible.
Paul spoke on numerous occasions of the wars that went on inside of him but God reminded him that his grace was sufficient. Don't go out here telling people that you never go through anything because if Jesus went through then are you greater than him? Even his disciples went through daily.
I'm always giving people facts because at the end of the day I am not perfect as long as I have this flesh on me. My goal each day is to strive to be what God has called me to be. I minister to people in more ways than one and yet I still have my own battles that I have to deal with inside of me. I will never stand before a group of people and say that this walk is an easy walk.
Sometimes you mess up so bad that you just want to quit and say God why did you choose me to know what I know and carry out your word. Many times I have protested to God all the errors that I saw within me and the reasons why I felt the ministry was not the route for me. Yet God still speaks and gives me words to encourage others even at my weakest moments.
So let us bring the people who are searching and hungry for the word of God into the church with love and not run them away. It is not the truth of the gospel that runs people away as many would preach, it is the way you delivered it to them and your actions towards them.People are not looking for you to point out their sins because they know they have sin within them. People are looking for a way out of the lifestyle they have been living. So when they come to you.....don't push them back out into the world that they are trying so desperately to escape. This is why suicide rates are high and drug usage is high.
People are on a search for a way out of the life they deal with daily. They are tired of going to churches and being bashed for the way they live.
They want out of that lifestyle so help them escape the hands of the devil.
Come and say, I too was a sinner just like you. I too was lost but now together we can work to help you get on the right track one step at a time by the strength of God.
